| Maximum megapixels | 64 |
| Background | White or transparent |
| Product fill | 75 to 90 percent of the frame |
| Text on the image | Not allowed |
| Overlays | Not allowed |
| Formats | jpg, png, webp |
| Maximum file size | 16 MB |
| AI disclosure metadata | IPTC digital source type must be set when the image is AI generated |
What this means in practice
The background should be white or transparent. Busy or dark backgrounds can get the image disapproved, and a clean white sweep also performs better in search results.
The product should fill 75 to 90 percent of the frame. Too small and the listing looks weak in search, too large and edges get clipped. Measure the longest product dimension against the frame side.
No text, watermarks or badges on this image. Promotional text belongs in secondary images or ad creative, never on the Google Merchant main image.

Check your main imageBuilt to this spec from one photo
Curvi builds Google Merchant main images from one photo of your product, measures the output pixels and attaches the report. A file that still fails a check after a retry is marked for review, and you are not charged for it.
